The piston of the gas spring can be locked steplessly over the entire length of the stroke. Type K spring with a rigid locking when extended. When pushing inward, nearly fixed.
Operation: In type K gas springs the locking function takes place in an oil chamber which is separated from the gas by a floating piston. If force is applied on the locked spring by pushing outward, the locking remains rigid, since there is only oil between the piston and the end piece. The locking force remains completely rigid up to the mechanical strength of the spring. If force is applied in the compression direction, the spring remains rigid until the force of the pressure of the floating piston is exceeded.
